Plaza Galarias
Plaza Galarias is one of the newest and
largest shopping centers in Guadalajara. It is comprised of large department
stores such as Sears and Liverpools, small boutiques, movie theaters, a casino,
a food court and several well known chain restaurants.
You’ll find the most
prestigious brand names in the world. Also in this area are a WalMart and Sams.
Mega and Costco are located across the street. The bus repositions to there mid
day.
The next trip to Plaza Galarias is currently scheduled for Thursday, January 7th
Plaza Mexico
Plaza Mexico is a smaller and older shopping
mall. For many of us, it is a favorite because of the manageable size. Here
you’ll find WalMart, Surberbia department store, a fabric shop, Radio Shack and
other smaller speciality shops. There’s a small food court, a Starbucks and a
VIPS restaurant.
Adjacent is Del Carmen Hospital where many Guadalajara doctors
have offices. Next door is Office Depot and several blocks away (within walking
distance) is the shoe mall Galeria del Calzado.
Tlaquepaque
Tlaquepaque is one of the world’s
greatest shopping experiences. It is a place where interior decorators
from all over the world come to find arguably the best selection of quality
arts and crafts in all of Mexico. You’ll be amazed at the wonderfully created
pieces of ceramics, lighting fixtures, furniture, jewelry and leather items.
For those seeking a cultural experience, visit the old church in the plaza, the
Museo Regional de la Ceramica and the Mueso Partaleon Pan duro. For lunch, we
suggest El Patio, Adobe and Casa Fuente
Tonala
Tonala is a wonderful hodge podge of stores and
workshops selling much of the glassware and ceramics found in other parts of
the country. The range of choices can be overwhelming. Here, factory stores are
true to their name—prices are lower and selections numerous.
Be sure to examine
all pieces carefully since seconds are offered for sale. There is a vast
selection of just plain junk so be selective. More information is available at
the tourist office in Cara de Artesanos
The next trip to Tonala is scheduled for Tuesday, January 19th
